Dylan Willet's Winning Flag Design

Congratulations to Dylan Willet of Pikwakanagan First Nation in Golden Lake, Ontario, winner of APTN's fourth annual National Aboriginal Day Live Flag Contest. His winning design was chosen from a total of 252 entries received from across Canada. Dylan incorporated different symbols in his artwork in order to represent Aboriginal Peoples as a whole; the inukshuk to represent Inuit Peoples, the infinity symbol to represent Métis Peoples, and two feathers to represent First Nations Peoples. He also included a turtle with North America drawn in the centre to represent Turtle Island, where all the surrounding cultures reside, and the colours of the Four Directions. Dylan received a trip to Winnipeg to be part of the Aboriginal Day Live celebrations as well as a cash prize of $500.
